WEAPONS

There are many different types of weapons in Chinese Martial Arts.  Throughout history each ruling dynasty has had it's own unique weapons and fighting styles emerge.  Of course there are a few designs that didn't change much due to their effectiveness. There are four main weapons in Chinese Martial Arts. They are straight sword, spear, broadsword, and staff. There are 18 common weapons including ax, hook, hammer, and whip .  It was more common for the 18 main weapons to change from dynasty to dynasty.  There are other special weapons as well, but they are less common.Kung Fu and Tai Chi have a long tradition of using all of the above weapon styles.  This is a fundamental difference between Traditional Chinese Martial arts like Kung Fu and Tai Chi vs. the sport and modern styles of Tae Kwon Do, Kenpo, Jiu Jitsu, boxing, and MMA.Tae Kwon Do is an Olympic sport with sparring it's only event.  Any weapons taught at a Tae Kwon Do school are added to keep interest.  Tae Kwon Do has no traditional roots or understanding of weapons use.  Kenpo is also a modern style with no heritage of weapons play.  At Monk Wise we offer a variety of weapons training from the most ancient and less common of special weapons to the more iconic weapons like straight sword, spear, nunchaku, broadsword, staff, as well as more modern weapons.  We teach these weapons throughout they year in private lessons, seminars, retreats, and clinics as well as offering the main weapons: stick, staff, broadsword, straight sword, and spear in our core curriculum from white sash to black sash.Jing Wu PNG.pngSun Bin PNG.pngWugulun PNG.pngMartial Arts Union.pngcurrent events
